Developing cultural awareness in your workplace: training for trainers
TWO DAY COURSE
Cultural awareness is important for a wide range of staff members who have contact with international students in many different contexts. Appropriate cultural awareness contributes to the well-being of current students and the recruitment of their successors. This two-day course will enable those with experience of working with international students to present training to their colleagues that will help them to be more aware of and sensitive to cultural difference. Participants will also feel more confident about the training process.
Note: this course is limited to 16 participants. Early booking is advised.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- assess what culture means personally and how it can be explored effectively in the training context
- gain familiarity with group exercises that can be used to explore issues of cultural difference in institutions
- design and present events relevant to different target groups within the institution
- become familiar with general principles of course design and learning styles
- reflect and evaluate their practice as a trainer
This course is suitable for:
those working with international students who wish to extend their activities to include cultural awareness training. Prior attendance on an introductory course on cultural issues such as 'An introduction to cultural awareness and sensitivity' is recommended.
